Navigating the ominous halls of the Raccoon City Police Department in Resident Evil 2 requires careful exploration and precise item management. Among the four suit-themed keys scattered throughout the game, the Diamond Key plays a vital role in securing valuable resources and unlocking key shortcut routes.

Where to Find the Diamond Key in Resident Evil 2

To acquire the Diamond Key, players must first descend into the basement level of the police station after completing the initial goddess statue medallion puzzle. Head through the underground parking garage area and proceed past the kennel corridor to enter the morgue.

Inside the morgue, walk up to the cold storage drawer units positioned along the northern wall. Pull open the second drawer from the left to reveal a corpse with the Diamond Key resting right beside its head. Be prepared for an immediate confrontation, as taking the key triggers two nearby zombies to reanimate and attack.

Unlocking the Firing Range Target Room

The first optional area you can open with the Diamond Key is located right inside the B1 Parking Garage section. Head into the Firing Range and search for the locked door on the wall marked with the pink diamond suit symbol.

Using your key on this door allows entry into the small back office of the shooting range. Inside, players will discover helpful ammunition, crafting supplies, and a portable safe that contains a button key needed for the main hall Safety Deposit Room.

Accessing the Elevator Controls Room in Claire's Campaign

For players going through Claire Redfield's story path, the Diamond Key is an obligatory item required to advance the main story. The Elevator Controls Room door in the main B1 hallway loop requires the diamond emblem to open.

Unlocking this room gives Claire access to the control panel switch needed to restore power to the private elevator. Taking this elevator leads directly up to Chief Irons' private collection room on the second floor, allowing Claire to continue her escape through the upper station.

Opening the Second Floor Linen Room

The final door opened by the Diamond Key is located on the second floor of the police station's west wing. Search the hallway directly outside the S.T.A.R.S. Office to find the locked entrance to the Linen Room.

Inside the Linen Room, players can gather valuable gunpowder crafting materials alongside another hidden portable safe. Resolving this safe grants the final missing key for the Safety Deposit Room terminal, giving full access to extra storage pouches and weapon upgrades.
